THE SPIRIT AND POWER OF GOD FOR MISSION

Today’s readings remind us that God’s work is accomplished not by human wisdom alone, but through the power of the Holy Spirit. St. Paul tells the Corinthians that he did not come with impressive words or human wisdom. He came with weakness, fear, and trembling, trusting that their faith would rest not on human wisdom but on the power of God. In the Gospel, Jesus enters the synagogue at Nazareth and declares: “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me.” His mission is not based on popularity, position, or human approval. He has been anointed by the Spirit to bring good news to the poor, freedom to captives, sight to the blind, and liberty to the oppressed. When Jesus speaks the truth, the people reject Him. This teaches us an important lesson: being faithful to God does not always mean being accepted by everyone. The servant of God must remain faithful even when there is opposition. Paul and Jesus show us that authentic ministry begins with surrender to the Holy Spirit. We may feel weak, inadequate, or afraid, but God can work through our weakness when we place our trust in Him. Let us therefore pray today: “Come, Holy Spirit, guide my words, strengthen my faith, and make my life an instrument of God’s love.” May our faith rest not on ourselves, but on the power of God.
